FRAXIOM

Fraxiom, a trans artist, made strides in 2020 as one half of the duo “food house.” This project saw the Chicago-based artist teaming up with Gupi, a hyperpop producer originally from California. The two met while studying at Berklee College of Music and quickly bonded over their shared love of weed and electronic music. When it came time for Gupi to record his debut album, he decided to enlist Fraxiom’s help and had them add vocals to their joint song “Thos Moser,” which was released in February of 2020. The collaboration worked so well that they’d go on to release an album together in October of 2020, which has had tracks curated on Spotify’s hyperpop and glitchcore playlists.

Fraxiom has credited their love of hyperpop to the nightcore music scene that they initially discovered on SoundCloud. That exploration would lead them down a rabbit hole that would end with the hyperpop music of 100 Gecs, which has since gone on to become one of Fraxiom’s primary inspirations for all of their musical endeavors. Fraxiom used the pitch-shifted vocals that are a staple of both hyperpop and nightcore to explore their sexual and gender identities since their discovery of the genres. Fraxiom is proving to be one of the primary voices leading the underground hyperpop movement that has since accrued mainstream attention, and as the genre becomes more and more popular, it’s expected that we’ll hear more of their voice going into the future.
