Industry Infiltration #1
Welcome to Industry Infiltration, a series of highlights on those in the music business who are helping pave the way for LGBTQ representation.
Here are this week’s LGBTQ+ music executives and writers who are killing the game right now and what they are up to:
ALAYSIA SIERRA BRAGG-MILES
Head of R&B programming, Apple Music
Bragg-Miles, a queer, nonbinary, black, woman-presenting person, has brought about visibility for artists such as Tierra Whack and Omar Apollo in their position at Apple Music. They are an advocate for bringing about opportunity for women and genderqueer people, wanting to see more of these people in engineering, producing, A&R and executive positions.
SPENCER MOYA
Senior director, digital marketing, Interscope Geffen A&M
Hailing from Albuquerque, NM, Moya can be credited with building out TikTok campaigns and the social media accounts of megastars at Interscope like Billie Eilish. Every project Moya has been working on is centered around TikTok, which he praises for its inclusivity. “I wish I had something like this when I was a teenager,” says Moya. “I might have come out much sooner.” (Billboard 2020)
TAYLA PARX
Artist and Songwriter, Warner Music Group
Over the course of seven years, Grammy-nominated bisexual singer-songwriter Tayla Parx has penned major hits for some of the biggest names in the music industry: Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Demi Lovato, Janelle Monae, Kesha, Ariana Grande. Parx herself has released two studio albums under Atlantic Records, bringing on features like Cautious Clay and Joey Badas$$. Parx has been credited on three Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles; "Love Lies" by Khalid and Normani, "Thank U, Next" by Ariana Grande, and "High Hopes" by Panic! at the Disco.
